Proprietary Blends: What To Know Before You Buy
Most blood-sugar supplements use some form of proprietary blend. Here's what to actually check before you buy.
1. Is anything named individually, or is it all one blend?
Glyco Harmony names Chromium Picolinate individually, which is a meaningful transparency point — not every product in this category discloses even one lead ingredient.
2. What does the combined blend total tell you?
A combined milligram total tells you the ceiling across all remaining ingredients, not how much of any single one you're getting.
3. Does ingredient order suggest anything?
Ingredients are typically listed in descending order by weight, so earlier-listed botanicals in a blend are a reasonable, though not certain, signal of relative amount.
4. Is the research about the ingredient or the finished product?
Published research on Gymnema or Green Tea individually doesn't automatically apply to a specific branded liquid containing them at an undisclosed relative dose.
5. Weigh the transparency gap honestly
A proprietary blend isn't automatically a dealbreaker, but it does mean you can't verify whether you're getting a research-relevant dose of any one ingredient beyond the one that's individually disclosed.
